Concerts!
« Thread started on: Nov 29th, 2002, 8:38pm » |

I've only watched stuff locally so my list will be very short.
So Good I Don't Mind Watching Them Again. And Again - Suede - Sheryl Crow
Quite Good But I Didn't Know the Songs So I was Quite Lost - Travis & Coldplay
Good But Once is Enough - Robbie Williams
Could Have Been Better - Blur
Thought It'd Be Good But Turned Out Rather Shite - INXS (incidentally my first rock concert. Sound was terrible.)
Thought It'd Be Bad But Turned Out Rather Good - Yanni (cheesiness aside, he's very entertaining)
Missed It for Some Inexplicable Reason - Garbage - REM
Only in My Dreams - U2 - Radiohead - kd lang - Tori Amos

I dun really go for concerts and stuff but been to only a few really:
1) Shery Crow @ Harbour Pavillion I was already a fan but after the concert I became a deeper one.
2) Bjork @ Zouk She is way out of this world I tell you. But the live part was pretty lack-lustre thanks to the lousy sound setup of the then obscure/underground/alternative Zouk.
3) The Cranberries/No Doubt @ Singapore Indoor Stadium Dun cringe. But I have been a fan of Dolores for a really long time. But more of their old stuff, not the new ones. They played us out once, I was determined to see pixie Dolores at least once in my lifetime. As for No Doubt, they've been known to bring the house down the last time, and they truly lived up to their name, a concert that got everyone jumping, love that kind of euphoria...
Btw I am those kind who go all the way if I go to a concert; READ: Hardcore GATECRASHER. I pay the minimal but I gatecrashed to areas where even the most expensive tickets dun get you that near. For ALL of the concerts. hehehehe
I missed Coldplay/Travis. I didn't even buy Parachutes at that time because I didn't want to try them based on the hype surrounding them. Big mistake. I should have just bought, try and gone to the concert. Argh!
Garbage. Missed because I was still in NS and was having problems squeezing out any cash. God I miss Shirley Manson.
Dream: Tori Amos, Fiona Apple. Any one of these, I will kill to see the live here.

I have been to only two concerts, like ever!
1. Travis/Coldplay I rather enjoyed this though my friends and I bought the cheapest tickets and were all the way up up up in the stands.. we came down to the second floor when Travis came on and I totally wondered why we didn't when Coldplay was playing
2. Mayday (Wu Yue Tian - chinese band) This was ABSOLUTELY LOVELY. We were right at the barricades and directly in front of the 4-sided stage so we got an excellent view etc. The band was fantastic live and there was so much energy that we spent two hours jumping up and down and screaming our heads off.. haha.
And that's about it. Pretty dismal, isn't it?
I want to see:
1. TORI AMOS (yes, we speak for all) Just because.
2. matchbox twenty
3. Fiona Apple
4. Aimee Mann
5. Beth Orton
And a whole bunch more.

Ashamed to say.. I've only been to one concert!!
Now got money nobody wants to come. Where the hell's Sheryl Crow and Alanis?? These two chicks only came when I'm poor and underage. Bloody hell.
Anyway, my only concert and it was this May.
1. Jewel @ suntec
My only concert and it was marvellous. What can I say? She's got a great voice. She sounded perfect. You know how some artists sound live. Well, she's flawless! Went there with my friend who's been everything I'd ever loved (so far)... so this experience is great and memorable. Still wished I have the bootleg. Someone taped it by refused to share it. Grrr....

Tip:
Next time you want to watch someone in concert, ask Regina if she is going too. Chances are, if she is in a generous mood, she will pay for your ticket. No kidding. Ask Jeff. At Coldplay/Travis, she paid for 5 people...

Regina... you are so gonna be fleeced by everyone here... hehehehehe... are you guys going to Garbage if they come? But think they cancelled thanks to the Bali bombings...
Boy was I surprised when Red Hot Chilli Peppers agrees to their initial dates despite the bomb scares... I am impressed. Anyone watching Anthony Kieldis and Flea and Gang?

It's a pity that we don't get as many concerts nowadays.
I'm not a big fan of the Peppers although I heard they are very good 'live'. I only know and like about 3 songs.
The funny thing about concerts here (or the lack of them) is that you get to see a myriad of people at these performances - yuppies at a Blur concert, secretaries at Pet Shop Boys, punk rockers at The Corrs. Not that I'm a snob or anything but I always find myself going - "What are they doing here?"
Well, as long as everybody has a good time.
